THE CALCIUM CONNECTION

A growing shrimp
has a lot going on.

To grow, shrimp shed their old exoskeleton in a process called molting. Calcium is one of the minerals involved in building and hardening that outer shell.

Food is part of the picture. So are the minerals in the water and a stable aquarium. Understanding how they fit together is a good place to start.

A KEEPER’S QUICK GUIDE

Calcium, without
the confusion.

Three things worth understanding
before you add anything to your tank.

01

Food and water
do different jobs.

A dietary calcium source is eaten. A remineralizer is used to adjust water minerals. Shrimp Bites are food; use a water product designed for your shrimp species when you need to remineralize.

02

A molt is part
of growing.

Calcium contributes to the mineralized exoskeleton. It doesn’t act as an on-demand molt switch. The goal is to support normal growth, with suitable nutrition and consistent conditions.

03

Start with your tank,
not another dose.

If something seems wrong, check water quality and recent changes before adding supplements. Different shrimp species have different needs; a failed molt alone doesn’t confirm a calcium deficiency.

A note on calcium carbonate

Calcium carbonate has low solubility in water, but it isn’t completely inert. Water chemistry, including acidity, affects how it dissolves. Think of these bites as food—not a precise way to set your tank’s hardness.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
drop a bite in.

Which flavor should I choose?

Superfood includes chlorella; the other option features bee pollen. Both are AquaBoost Shrimp Bites with calcium carbonate. Check the selected listing for the complete ingredient information.

How much should I feed?

Follow the directions on your current package. Start conservatively, watch how much your colony eats, and account for other food and natural grazing in the tank. Remove uneaten food before it fouls the water.

Will these make my shrimp molt?

Molting is a natural, regulated process. These bites provide a dietary calcium source, but they aren’t intended to force a molt or guarantee that a molting problem will resolve.

Can I use these instead of remineralizing my water?

No. Food and water mineral management serve different purposes. Use appropriate tests and a remineralizer suited to your species and source water when needed.

Where can I buy Shrimp Bites?

Choose your flavor above, then shop through Wild Pet Supply or Amazon. Current prices, available sizes, and shipping information are shown on the retailer’s listing.
